One would think, one of the craziest sources of information about a relationship would come from a man that is a player. Think again, years ago I was fascinated by a series of articles from a dating blog called My One Amor. There was an anonymous contributor who shared stories about his first date sex conquests. As it turned out he wanted to feel a certain feeling he couldn’t find. Men want to feel like they belong in their relationship.
I am not saying that literally, but men want the feeling that this is the place for them. A place where you can share anything, be yourself, and never worry about being judged.
Our recent “trad wife” story by Matchmaker Marla Martenson caught a lot of attention. What we’re talking about here is that sense of I belong here in a natural sense. Perhaps even part of that trad wife throw back of years ago.
I had the opportunity to actually interview that anonymous serial dater from the My One Amor blog, under the strict understanding to not reveal his identity.
He actually used the words, that after sex with hundreds of women, some he saw for a period of time, he never felt like he belonged. In his words, he felt like a stranger when he was with the women, regardless of how close they became.
And notably, regardless of how many times they stayed together, for even days at time at a woman’s house, it always felt like he was at a hotel. It never felt like home, something explored in the trad wife article.
I have given this a lot of thought and now ask men clients about how they felt in past relationships. To my surprise, that serial dater may have been on to something here.
The takeaway is it is really important to spend as much time as you can with someone in the beginning of a relationship. If it doesn’t feel like you “belong”, then maybe it’s not the right relationship.
